Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve pain and muscle tension throughout the body. This type of massage is extremely beneficial because it reaches the deepest layer of muscles, fascia (connective tissue surrounding the joints) and tendons. The goal in deep tissue massage is to breakdown adhesions (tense areas within the muscle). Adhesions in the muscle are very important to address because they cause pain, inflammation and limit motion of the muscles and joints.

Hot Stone

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones, either as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body while they massage other parts of the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply, more quickly. Combining hot stone protocols with a full body massage provides a very healing and effective experience. The hot stones also expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. The hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.

This technique was originated by Gary Young using Young Living Essential Oils and massage techniques to stimulate every organ, muscle and bone of the body at a cellular level.  Anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory essential oils are used to reduce inflammation by killing the viral agents, bringing the body into structural and electrical alignment. Some of the oils used are:  oregano, thyme, basil, cypress, wintergreen, marjoram and peppermint.  They are dispensed like little drops of rain from a height of about six inches above the back and massaged along the vertebrae.  The results of this treatment continue to work for approximately five to seven days.

Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of massage technique. If it's your first time, Swedish body massage is the perfect place to start. Swedish massage is a gentle, rhythmic massage that is very good to relax soft body tissue and facilitate healing. It is lighter in touch than other forms of massage techniques and includes long flowing strokes, kneading, and friction techniques on more superficial layers of the muscles.  The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, and greater flexibility.

Sports Therapeutic

This is a type of massage focused on treating pain, soft tissue aches and injuries related to sports. This technique can be beneficial in improving relaxation, decreasing muscle stiffness and decreasing blood pressure and heart rate. Increased range of motion and improved muscle flexibility are also benefits that can be gained.

The practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being. The inhaled aroma from these "essential" oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing. A form of alternative medicine, aromatherapy is gaining momentum. It is used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function.

Trigger Point

The application of pressure on tender trigger points in the muscles to relieve pain and tension.  A trigger point is a generally small area of a muscle that is tightly knotted and in spasm causing referred pain.  This type of therapy relies heavily on client-therapist interaction, including verbal elements.  Success can be measured by the level of pain reduction experienced by the client and increased range of motion.  Benefits range from pain relief and an increase in flexibility to an improvement in circulation, energy levels and immune system functioning.

Based on an ancient Chinese therapy, reflexology involves manipulation of specific reflex areas in the feet, hands and ears that correspond to other parts of the body.  This modality involves application of pressure to these reflex zones to stimulate body organs and relieve areas of congestion. Reflexology massage is used to reduce effects of stress upon your body by relaxing you. It is also used to improve circulation and to promote proper digestion and elimination of waste. Some forms of reflexology will trigger the release of toxins and will aid your body in releasing impurities. This technique is used to reduce pain, increase relaxation and stimulate circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids.  This technique is also convenient in cases where an area of the body is traumatized to the extent that direct manipulation is not appropriate.

Specific massage techniques can reduce pregnancy discomforts and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus.  Skilled, appropriate touch facilitates labor, shortening labor times and easing pain and anxiety.  Pregnancy massage helps relieve edema, low back pain and over-all discomfort and helps the “mom-to-be” sleep better.  Pregnancy massage has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. It’s a popular complementary therapy during pregnancy for back pain, when choices for pain relief, such as medication, are often limited.
